Flight Attendant, on Board Leader, Coordinator In-flight Service: Delta Air Lines.

My story of the first memorial in 2002.

By chance, not design I pulled a long layover in Manhattan, Sept 10 and 11, 2002.  I decided before I left home that I would attend the memorial. Knowing my way around town, I offered to lead my crew on the subway downtown from our uptown hotel. We made our plans then for the next morning. Most everyone accompanied me, some of us in uniform.

I felt compelled to go to the memorial to honor all the fallen. For me,as a on board crew, especially the crews that gave their lives too. It had been a difficult year for everyone. I could not stop thinking about it.I had flown by and near it so many times that year as it still burned.  It was closure.

Crew members are taught to manage in all kinds of situations. You are up there on your own. You are ready. I could only imagine how hard it was from them to be so helpless and frustrated at  not being able to care for everyone and resolve the situation.

My crew and I had I Company ID's and we were allowed down into the GZ but we did not go in. We stayed up on the edge. It was a quiet, beautiful fall day. It did not remain so. I witnessed the wind picking up at 840am as the bell began to toll and the names were being read. The wind got stronger and the halyards on the flag poles began to chime. The chains holding the Post Office Building together clanged and it was the only noisy part of an otherwise solemn time. The wind carried itself around GZ in a circle and  it grew stronger and stronger, and did not let up.
The next day there was a photo in the New York Daily News of a small whirlwind coming up from GZ where all the flowers and family were. Those were the souls of that sad day. Released to God. That is how that photo struck me. Please join me in a moment of prayer tomorrow.8:40AM Eastern Time. Pray for peace and loving kindness to envelope the whole world. Visualize it. Believe it. Be it.

AtCloudWest

A garden dream of mine is to have a real garden with intesting features, unusual plants and organic. I want the moon right?
